Description

Sink your teeth into the original horror classic—Bram Stoker’s timeless gothic tale which introduced one of the most terrifying and mesmerizing legends in literature: Dracula the Vampire.

Originally published in 1897, Dracula is one of the most enduring and influential works of literature ever written, spawning countless adaptations and reimaginings from every generation of readers.

Stoker’s epistolary novel follows young English lawyer Jonathan Harker who arrives in Transylvania to meet with Count Dracula, one of his firm’s clients. Feared by the locals, the count is indeed a mysterious man, stranger than Harker could ever imagine—a vampire who lives on human blood. After Harker narrowly escapes an encounter with three female vampires, confirms Dracula’s secret nature, and fails to kill him, Dracula leaves him trapped in the castle and travels to England, where the vampire threatens the life of Harker’s fiancée, Mina, after killing her friend, Lucy.

When Harker finally escapes and reunites with Mina, the brave pair risk everything along with some other determined vampire hunters to destroy the fiendish monster.

Told through letters, diary entries, telegrams, and newspaper articles, Dracula is ingrained in the collective imagination and remains as haunting and eerie today as when it was published more than a hundred years ago.

About the Author

Bram Stoker (1847–1912) grew up in Ireland listening to his mother's tales of blood-drinking fairies and vampires rising from their graves. He later managed the Lyceum Theatre in London and worked as a civil servant, newspaper editor, reporter, and theater critic. Dracula, his best-known work, was published in 1897 and is hailed as one of the founding pieces of Gothic literature.
