A Field Guide to Michigan Wildflowers describes and illustrates over 500 wildflowers found in Michigan. The book, first published in 1961 as Michigan Wildflowers by Helen Vandervort Smith, has been updated to the latest botanical nomenclature and family assignments, provides county-level distribution maps for each species, and features full-color photographs for nearly all wildflowers included. A description of each wildflower is provided, including information on its growth form, leaf, flower, and fruit characteristics, habitat and flowering period, native or introduced status, plus notes on the plant's cultural use by American Indians and early settlers. The wildflowers are organized by family so that family characteristics and relationships can be more easily learned, making the book useful to the beginner as well as to the more experienced naturalist. A key to the families, and numerous keys to important genera are provided, as is an illustrated glossary, and scientific and common name indexes.
